What You Need to Know About Active Duty Licensure by Endorsement

Published: Apr 03, 2017 by Luther Liggett

An active duty service person and spouse would receive a year’s professional license, such as a construction contractor’s license, if the person holds a similar license in another state under House Bill 75, sponsored by freshman Representative Theresa Gavarone (R, Bowling Green). The new law would create a “License by endorsement”.

The phrase is defined as a temporary license issued by a licensing agency *** that permits the license holder to engage in a licensable profession in this state for a period of not more than twelve months without prior examination or other similar requirement.

The Ohio State Medical Association raised concerns that, while they support service members, nevertheless the licensee still must be subject to all practice conditions of this particular state.

The bill appears to be moving in the House Armed Services, Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security Committee toward passage, and then to the Senate.
