Why Ohio Pharmacy Technicians Should Begin Registration Now

Published: Nov 17, 2017 by Levi Tkach

The State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy has begun accepting pharmacy technician registration applications. Under Ohio law, all pharmacy technicians practicing in Ohio must be registered with the Board by April 6, 2018.

The Pharmacy Board anticipates it will receive thousands of applications submitted by individuals currently working as technicians in pharmacies around the State. The Board strongly recommends that current technicians apply for registration as soon as practically possible.

Anyone who is not approved by the Board by April 6, 2018, will be prohibited from working in a pharmacy. Simply filing your application prior to the deadline is not sufficient. The Board must process, review, verify, and approve an application in writing by April 6, 2018.

Under the Board’s system there are three types of technician registrations available:

1. Certified Pharmacy Technician
2. Registered Pharmacy Technician
3. Pharmacy Technician Trainee

If you are currently working as a pharmacy technician in Ohio and you are unsure which type of registration you need to submit, review guidance information from the Board or consider calling Graff & McGovern, LPA.
