John A. Izzo

Assistant Director of Government Relations

Attorney John Izzo helps professionals and companies obtain or retain their licenses before their regulatory board, commission, or agency. He is one of only eight Administrative Agency Law specialists certified by the Ohio State Bar Association.

John has appeared before many state and local agencies, including the Accountancy Board, Department of Commerce, the Lottery Commission, the Ohio State Racing Commission, the Medical Board, and the Veterinary Medical Licensing Board. He is licensed to represent clients in both state and federal courts.

John received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and his law degree from the University of Akron School of Law. He began his legal career with the Champaign County Child Support Enforcement Agency. He served three years as an enforcement coordinator for the State Medical Board of Ohio. He spent three years as an Assistant Ohio Attorney General, representing numerous agencies, including the Ohio State Racing Commission, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board, and the Division of Securities and Division of Financial Institutions at the Department of Commerce.

After a year and a half as Chief Counsel for the Division of Financial Institutions, John became the Deputy Director and Legal Counsel for the Ohio State Racing Commission, the agency that regulates horse racing in Ohio at seven commercial racetracks and over sixty county fairs. He was also a hearing officer for the Ohio Department of Health and the Unemployment Compensation Review Commission.

John joined Graff & McGovern in 2011, where his practice is focused on representing applicants and licensed individuals and companies before their regulatory body. He also handles equine law, animal law, and family law matters, and has lobbied on behalf of clients before regulatory agencies and the legislature.
